While I’m Waiting for You

Audiovisual performance/installation, multi channels, stereo sound
04 min 12 sec
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
2008/2009

A multimedia environment, playing with the realm of space and time by combining sounds, a series of photographic stills (edited in a time-lapse sequence), and colour projections. It is a fragment of a continuous observation, trying to get through beyond those walls, windows, doors, and everything else surrounds us.

For the performance version, 2 slide projectors (35mm) were used to display the colour sequence and manually controlled. It was presented at the Dutch Art Institute, Enschede, The Netherlands,
14 November 2008.

For the installation version, it was set in a loop (with a short break in between) and used 2 digital projectors for the colour sequence. It was exhibited in a group exhibition ikwilruimte, Eindhoven,
The Netherlands, 10-12 April 2009.

While I’m Waiting for You (lyric)*

I.
Do you see it?
See what...no, I don’t.
Really, are you sure?
Wait a minute, I see blue.

And, oh...I think I hear something.
Isn’t it just...?
Yes, no (...) I don’t know.
Well,

II.
Listen!
Little voices
Laughters
Sounds quite far away...mm...not that far actually.
(It must be) my heartbeat pounding.
I miss those days.

What time is it?
They might come soon.
I feel like staying for a while.

III.
It's getting dark
The sun is sinking low
Leaving all the lights behind
Ghosts of daylight resonate in the afternoon glow.

Shadows cast upon an empty square
Passing by the pedestrian walk
Peeking from the white-framed windows
Slowly crawling all buildings, stretching traces.

As the wind sweeping hard
I hear it howling
Swirls around
Hurling in a deep hollowed space.

Echoes from the trembling leaves
Shaken unwillingly
Not standing still
Still struggling to find the path.

IV.
Silvery shining moon
Posing above the horizon
Cold breeze shivering my face.
I sit outside.
I see pictures, I see words
Pieces sent from distant places.

Looking through the glass.
I am searching
But you are not there.
I left shattered.
Fire inside the room
Burning inside me.

Lonely night singing its hymn.
It’s not a lullaby, no it isn’t so.
Rumbling relentlessly
Marching up and down
By the wall rising tall
Breaking the shade free.

I am taken by the wind.
Flowing
Blowing
Wandering...
Those closed curtains
Showing their true vibrant colours.

I see you...I see me.
Tell me if this is true.
It’s fading away, I can’t hold on
All buried in the darkest of grey
Disappear...
Rolling to the cradle of dawn.
